He already knew [[Traxis]] somehow, though neither of them ever gave me much of an explanation as to why. - When I first met him, I assumed he was little more than a particularly secretive rogue. Hood, mask, knives, good at disappearing, better at finding somewhere unpleasant to put a blade. Then wings came out of his back during our fight with [[Sparkrender]], so that assessment required some adjustment. - Kalis has mentioned pieces of his past, his parents, an old connection to a "[[Lucia]]", and some involvement with a thieves' guild, but never enough for me to understand the whole thing. Trying to get his history from him is like assembling a book from pages he occasionally throws at you. - In [[Greenest]], he proved considerably more capable than I expected. He infiltrated the Cult's camp with us, helped get people out alive, and later defeated [[Langdedrosa Cyanwrath]] alone before choosing to spare them. - An interesting note is that the woman we believe may be the "[[White Wyrmspeaker]]" also took a particular interest in him. She spoke with Kalis privately and allowed him to leave unharmed. Whatever happened between them bothered him, and he has told us very little about it. - Kalis has changed since the beginning of our journey. Most of his strength now comes from his devotion to [[The Raven Queen]]. He can call down deathly magic from a distance and summon a great spectral scythe beside himself to deal with anything that gets too close. - I do not know what the Raven Queen would make of [[Beshaba]]'s curse on me, or of someone who keeps dying and returning when he apparently should not. That makes Kalis potentially useful if his faith can teach us something about death, but it also makes me wary. If his goddess ever decided my existence was something that needed correcting, Kalis might be placed directly between me and freedom from this curse. - Do I consider him a threat? Yes. Not an enemy, but certainly a threat. He is becoming more dangerous the longer we travel together, and unlike most people who could hurt me, Kalis knows how I fight. - If I ever had to put him down, I think I could, but I would need to close the distance quickly and give him very little time to use that magic against me. If he had room to keep me away while that scythe followed me around, I would much rather not find out which of us was right. - For now, none of that changes the important part. Kalis has repeatedly stayed when leaving would have been easier. Until he gives me a reason to believe otherwise, I consider him one of us.
