Monster tribes, predators, and whatever else has managed to survive out there tend to make more convincing claims to the land than any map does. - The [[Storm Horn Mountains]] divide portions of the surrounding country, and the terrain becomes increasingly harsh the farther civilization is left behind. - The region has a reputation for old magic and places where magic does not always behave as expected. Whether every story told about that is true is another matter; people become remarkably creative after surviving something they do not understand. - I have always thought of the Stonelands less as a destination and more as a warning attached to the northern edge of Cormyr: beyond this point, the roads become suggestions.
