The [[Order of the Lucky Blades]], my parents, [[Olivia Halcrest]], and much of the town itself were shaped in one way or another by the belief that fortune favors those willing to meet it halfway. - I was taught that Tymora does not simply hand people victories. Luck creates an opening, but somebody still has to recognize it, take the chance, and live with whatever follows. - She is also the other half of [[Beshaba]], the Lady of Misfortune. Where Tymora represents favorable chance and opportunity, Beshaba twists chance toward suffering, failure, and ruin. - For most of my younger life, I believed in Tymora without much hesitation. I wore her symbol, trained among her followers, and believed that courage and faith meant something when the moment finally came to act. - That changed after Olivia died. Whatever faith I had left in Tymora did not survive watching someone who had devoted so much of herself to that belief be taken by Beshaba anyway. - I cannot say that Tymora abandoned me, because I have no way of knowing what a goddess thinks or why she chooses to act. What I can say is that when I needed some sign that everything Olivia believed had mattered, I found silence instead. - I still understand Tymora's teachings. Some of them are probably buried deeper in me than I would like to admit. Understanding them and believing in the goddess behind them, however, are no longer the same thing.
