Considering the number of people packed into Waterdeep and the damage a careless spellcaster could cause, I can understand why the city prefers someone keeping track of them. - Members have access to spell components, magical trade, and connections with other practitioners, while the Order itself provides magical services to Waterdeep. - Their work includes maintaining magical protections, dealing with fires through magic and summoned water elementals, and providing spellcasters capable of defending against magical threats. - Some members apparently earn coin serving as fire guards, firefighters, or magical bodyguards, making the Order considerably more practical than the sort of arcane society that exists solely to collect books and argue over terminology. - The Order is led by [[Bowgentra Summertaen]] from the Tower of the Order and is said to have roughly a thousand wizards and sorcerers among its membership. - I have never had much reason to involve myself directly with them, but after spending enough time in Waterdeep, it is difficult not to recognize how much of the city's magical infrastructure depends upon organizations like this one.
