Before Waterdeep became the great city it is known as today, Bram worked as a local investigator along the [[Sword Coast]], chasing criminals with more stubbornness than resources and building a reputation for never letting a case go. He is pale, severe, and controlled- though his pursuit of [[Cassian Vaelisar]] often strips away that composure and reveals a louder, stranger and more frantic side of him. Bram dresses with old-fashioned formality, usually in dark coats, gloves, and high collars, but he is just as likely to be found shouting across rooftops, bursting into noble galas with a warrant, or sprinting after a false Cassian while the real one waves from a balcony. Though undead, Bram remains bound by strict oaths and a personal devotion to justice. His longest and most personal case is that of Cassian Vaelisar the XIII, the thief Bram knows is not the latest in a line, but the same impossible man he first hunted centuries ago. <div class="dioctionary-ribbon">HIS PAST</div> - Bram Velmont was born in 560 DR and began his life as a human investigator along the [[Sword Coast]], long before [[Waterdeep]] rose into its later power. As a mortal man, he first encountered [[Cassian Vaelisar]] while the thief was still known as Cassian Vaelisar the I, beginning a pursuit that neither of them understood would last for centuries. Bram was turned into a vampire in 620 DR during an investigation into a hidden noble-backed conspiracy, but he survived the loss of his mortal life without surrendering his sense of duty. His undeath allowed him to recognize what no ordinary investigator could have lived long enough to prove: each new Cassian was not a descendant, but the same man returning under another mask. After Waterdeep became established, Bram eventually entered the service of the City Watch, where his impossible memory, relentless habits, and complete lack of patience for charming criminals made him both useful and exhausting. His hunt for Cassian has become more than a case, because exposing the truth of the Vaelisar line may be the only way to finally end a crime that has lasted nearly a thousand years.
