Its origins reach back to the arrival of the efreeti Memnon and his Army of Fire, whose power shaped the city’s earliest history and left a long shadow over the region. In later ages, Memnon became a trade port, naval station, and garrison city, guarding routes along the coast and the desert’s edge. After [[the Spellplague]], the region was plunged into a new age of elemental rule, with firesoul genasi and genie powers rising over the city. By the current age, that rule had been broken, and Memnon returned to human hands as Calimshan struggled to rebuild after years of tyranny and war.
