The region stretches through many depth zones, from bright shallows filled with coral and kelp to deep trenches where only the hardiest creatures and worst ideas survive. Its history is shaped by ancient empires, the Serôs Wars, the rise and fall of aquatic kingdoms, and the long struggle between cooperation and predation beneath the waves.
