He stands fairly tall with a lean build, pale skin, black hair, and blue eyes that look more tired than welcoming. He wears whatever armor can survive the road and carries a greatsword with the ease of someone who learned violence in tight spaces with the room for ceremony. Gideon is blunt, dry, and difficult to impress, but he is not heartless; he has little patience for tyrants, slavers, or anyone who dresses cruelty up as law. For much of his youth, he was owned by one of Pitax’s underground gladiator rings, forced to fight as both slave and spectacle until the operation finally collapsed when he was around twenty-six. When it fell apart, Gideon took what gold he could from the ruins of the people who had profited from him and used it to open [[Duskwell’s]], a modest shop that handles dangerous work for fair coin. Some of his earliest customers came because they remembered him from the arena, which was probably flattering in the same way a scar is decorative. His father died in war not long after Gideon and his twin sister, [[Gwendolyn Duskwell]], were born, leaving Talia to raise them alone until she met [[Mara Duskwell]], the woman who became her wife and the true heart of the household. Mara gave the Duskwell home warmth where Talia brought discipline, and Gideon’s earliest memories are less of banners or titles and more of Gwendolyn at his side, daring him into trouble, challenging him at every turn, and feeling less like a sibling than the other half of his own shadow.
