<div class="dioctionary-ribbon">A Brief History</div>
- The River Chionthar cuts westward through the [[Western Heartlands]] from its source in the Far Hills to its mouth at the Trackless Sea, serving as one of the most vital trade arteries in the region and linking inland powers to the Sword Coast through constant movement of goods, people, and influence. Barges and ferries travel its length daily, carrying trade as far inland as [[Iriaebor]] while connecting major settlements such as [[Berdusk]], [[Elturel]], [[Scornubel]], and [[Baldur’s Gate]], whose position at the river’s estuary gives it control over the flow between inland commerce and ocean trade. The river itself is not governed by any single power, instead existing as a shared and contested lifeline where merchants, travelers, and opportunists alike rely on its steady current, making it as much a highway as any road, and just as dangerous in places where control weakens and threats gather along its banks.
