She was one of the people who became part of my life early enough that separating her from memories of the Order, [[Olivia Halcrest]], and [[Kaelen Droswynn]] is nearly impossible. - Olivia trained Lira as well, though she never tried to turn her into another version of herself. Lira was always quicker to laugh, quicker to act, and considerably more willing to believe that people could still become better than whatever mistake brought them to that moment. - Where Kaelen leaned toward discipline and certainty, Lira usually leaned toward compassion. That difference became considerably more important after Olivia died. - She never blamed me for what happened to Olivia. Plenty of people could look at the sword in my hand and decide the matter was simple. Lira never did. She understood there was something else involved, even when neither of us understood the full shape of it. - I think that is part of why I have always thought of her as family. Not by blood, but close enough that the distinction stopped mattering a long time ago. - Across more than one of my lives, I crossed paths with Lira again without her knowing everything that had happened to me. Somehow she kept being the person who reached toward me instead of away. - One of those times ended in a burning building. I found Lira trapped beneath fire and falling stone and went in after her. She understood before I said anything that I was prepared to stay behind if that was what it took to get her out. - Before we separated, she warned me about [[Kaelen Droswynn]] and begged me to leave with her instead of accepting death. She survived. I did not. - As far as I know, that "Lira" still likely believes that version of me died there. - I do not know what she would think if she saw me now. That question bothers me more than I would like to admit. - She represents one of the parts of my old life that I have never been able to dismiss as something better left buried. Olivia is gone. Kaelen became something I barely recognize. Lira, somehow, remained Lira. - If I ever return to Silvercross openly, she is one of the people I would have the hardest time standing in front of. Not because I fear what she would do, but because I know there is a very real chance she would simply be happy I was alive.
