<div class="dioctionary-ribbon">A Brief History</div>
- Icewind Dale, often simply called the Dale, is a frozen and unforgiving expanse at the far northern edge of [[Faerûn]], a land defined not by borders or rulers, but by survival against the cold, the wind, and the ever-present threat of death lurking just beyond the next horizon. Temperatures plunge far below freezing for most of the year, blizzards tear across open tundra, and long nights stretch endlessly, creating a world where even the simplest mistake can prove fatal, and where only the hardiest individuals endure. Civilization exists only in scattered pockets such as the [[Ten-Towns]], with [[Bryn Shander]] serving as the largest and most vital hub, a place where trade, shelter, and cooperation offer a fragile defense against the wild. Travel is slow and dangerous, often by dogsled or on foot, and beyond the reach of settlement lies a landscape filled with predators, monsters, and ancient threats that care nothing for those who wander into their domain. Icewind Dale is not a place that welcomes people; it is a place that tests them, and those who remain are either strong enough to survive it, or too stubborn to leave.
