By the time I was growing up, he had already spent decades turning the position into something almost inseparable from [[House Blackfen]] itself. - Grandfather believed in preparation, discipline, and the idea that trusting [[Tymora]] did not excuse being careless. When the time came to choose his successor, he passed command to my mother, [[Therona Eldwynair]], rather than his eldest son, [[Quincy Blackfen III]]. Nobody in the family needed an explanation for what that meant. He believed she was the person most capable of carrying the responsibility. - Even after retiring, Quincy never really became irrelevant. He was the sort of man who could sit quietly through an entire conversation and still somehow make everyone aware that he was evaluating it. - I grew up knowing exactly what grandfather expected from the people carrying the Blackfen name.
