Or, more accurately, he was the name I used when pretending to be someone else. There was never another man hiding behind the name, only me trying to put enough distance between myself and everything attached to my real one. - I built the name out of pieces of home I could still tolerate carrying. "Ronan" was close enough to [[Rowan Eldwynair]] to feel familiar when I said it aloud, while "Blackfen" came from my mother's family. I suppose even while trying to disappear, I was not especially good at letting go. - In [[Waterdeep]], Ronan was a nobody. I kept the same second-floor room at [[The Yawning Portal]] that I had used under the name in more than one life, took whatever quiet work came along, and did my best to become another face people stopped noticing. [[Durnan]] never asked the questions I clearly did not want to answer, and I repaid that courtesy by being useful whenever he needed another pair of hands. - Olivia's hat and sword stayed with me, though for much of that time I kept them put away. Ronan did not need to look like the paladin who left Silvercross. He was supposed to be the sort of man who could wake up, work, eat, sleep, and repeat the process.
